Elimination of Sweating

Botulinum toxin in a precise concentration blocks the transmission of impulse from the nerve to the muscle or sweat gland, which stops moving or producing sweat. This effect is also used in other branches of medicine to treat various diseases.

Reduction of Sweating

Botulinum toxin injected into the skin blocks the transmission of the nerve impulse to the sweat gland, thereby stopping sweat production in the treated area. The effect after application is temporary, the duration is highly individual, depending on the rate of degradation of the active substance. Usually the effect lasts from 3 to 12 months. The restoration of nerve impulse transmission occurs gradually as the body creates new nerve endings and thus the transmission of excitement at the nerve connection is restored. The most commonly treated areas include the armpit socket area and the palms of the hands.

The Course of the Procedure

Botulinum toxin is injected subcutaneously using very fine needles usually without local anaesthesia. The procedure is very little painful, yet in very sensitive individuals the skin can be numbed with a cream containing a local anaesthetic before application.

Post-procedure Course

The effect after botulinum toxin application is rapid, occurring approximately 3-4 days after application, with the maximum onset of effect generally occurring 14 days after treatment. The effect lasts for several months, after which it must be repeated, but the intervals between applications are gradually extended. Most clients come for further applications at intervals of 6-12 months.

Risks

Minor bruising may occur at the injection site after application and, exceptionally, redness or decreased sensitivity. When applied to the palm area, the effect is uncertain and it is often necessary to repeat the procedure and increase the amount of Botulinum toxin applied to ensure a better result. It is also advisable to discontinue bleeding-increasing drugs (Anopyrin, Acylpyrine, Brufen, etc.) before application.
